Terms of Use

Cold Case Checker is an informational site. Its content is gathered and drafted with AI from public sources (news reports, court and agency records, books, and public databases) and may contain errors. Every claim should be checked against the linked source.

Not an investigation. We are not law enforcement, and nothing here is evidence. Hypotheses are opinion about public information. People named as suspects, including those who are deceased or living, have not been convicted of the crimes described unless a page says so. Do not harass anyone named on this site.

Clues and tips. The clue form on each case page is not a police tip line and is not monitored around the clock. Do not use it for emergencies; call 911. For information that could help solve a case, you can also contact the investigating agency, the FBI at tips.fbi.gov, or Crime Stoppers. Clues sent to this site are reviewed by the site owner, may be published on the page if they are sourced, and may be shared with the investigating agency. We do not ask for your name, but our form service may record technical details such as your IP address. False or malicious claims about real people are not allowed and may be discarded or reported.

Victims and missing people. We try to treat victims, missing people and families with respect. To request a correction, contact the site owner.

Photos. We show only images that are in the public domain or under an open license, each with a credit and a link to its source (mostly Wikimedia Commons). A photo of a person is not a statement about guilt. To request that a photo be changed or removed, contact the site owner.

Third-party content. Links and headlines come from outside sites we do not control. Appearing here is not an endorsement.

Corrections and removals policy

Reporting a problem. Use the contact form at the bottom of any page. Say which page, what is wrong, and give a source if you can.

What we do. We compare the report with the sources cited on the page. Confirmed errors are corrected, and the change is noted in the page's change log. If we cannot verify a claim, we mark it unverified or remove it.

Replies. A person named on a page, or a family member of someone named, can ask us to add a short reply or a correction of fact. We may link to a published statement.

Photos. Anyone with rights to a photo, or a family member of a person pictured, can ask us to remove or replace it through the contact form. We aim to act quickly, and we remove a photo while we look into a complaint where that is reasonable.

Dates. Each page shows when it was last checked. News headlines are saved automatically and may lag the latest reporting.

What we will not do. We do not publish unsourced accusations, and we do not treat an estimate or hypothesis as a finding of fact.
